Fifty qualifiers were invited to compete for a superb array of prizes on offer in the final of the Winter League. Conditions were tricky as the finalists lined up on a beautiful Spring morning. The quality of golf was also superb and the winning total was 42 points. Mick Fitzpatrick (12) played solid; in the conditions to produce the winning total. Mick has always been a brilliant competitor and on this occasion held his score together superbly to secure a brand new set of Ping irons. It was a fantastic reward for winning the hugely successful Winter League and a prize that Mick will get great enjoyment out of for years to come. Kevin Walzer (16) played very well to produce a total of 41 points narrowly missing out on the grand prize. Kevin received a Ping driver and 12 Pro V1’s which was also a superb reward for a long winter campaign. In third was James Hartley (14) who had 40 points while Paul Madigan was just a shot further back. Paul recieved a Nike rescue wood while James is now the proud owner of a Nike golf bag and golf shoes. Brian Doheny won the best gross with an excellent total of 32 points. Richie Cuddihy also entered the prizes with 38 points winning a new putter. Richie achieved the rarest of feats over the bank holiday weekend when he holed his tee shot at the 4th hole. Richie netted over 90 euro as part of the 2’s club and now has a new putter should he fail to hole more tee shots. Mick Hickey and Niall Brett both shot 37 points to complete the prize winners. Well done to all qualifiers and prize winners. A big well done to Dwayne Martin (Competition Secretary) and Paul Cashin (Vice-Captain) for their work in keeping the cards up to date. There will be a Winter League next winter and should anyone have ideas about improving the format please have a word with Paul or Dwayne or any committee members. All suggestions will be given due consideration.
