Results week ending 13/9/15.
O’Dwyers Golf Store open singles 9th Sept 1st luke Donnelly 39pts 2nd Jeff Lynch 37pts 3rd JJ Murphy 36pts.
Sat/Sun 12/13th Sept Mens 4 ball V par sponsor Murt Duggan was won by Ross Holden and Andy Needhan 8 up, 2nd were John Healey Jim Kirby 7 up.
On Thurs the 10th Sept the Emerald Classic was held at Callan Golf Club for the 38th time. The winning team Led by John Holden, S Burke, O O’Conner, M Skehan had a score of 103. Callan’s Captain welcomed the Emeralds and congratulated them on creating what can only be described as an institution at this stage. Captain Pat and President Mossie spoke of how happy they were to meet and greet this special society, how the friendships made over the decades still endure and how all the members of Callan look forward to this annual event. Hon Life President Murt Duggan who is the driving force behind this Classic on this side of the Atlantic announced that 30 teams lined out testament to how popular this Annual event remains to be. Emeralds President Pat Lynch thanked Callan for their hospitality he commended the grounds staff for presenting the course to such a high standard and thanked Jon and his staff for the excellent bar and catering. Last words came from Ambrose O’Connell who has made the trip every year for the 38 years and Martin Murphy who but for one year has made every trip and that one year was the ammunition he used to get at Martin in his speech, Ambrose finished by thanking Callan for the hospitality shown to him and his fellow society members and praised Murt Duggan for his hard work in organising the classic he thanked Sean Waltzer and John O’Dwyer for assisting Murt but most of all thanked all for their friendship over the past 38 years.
Team News Callan’s south Leinster team were out in the semi final on Sat against Athy. Callan put up a good performance but fell short eventually loosing four and a half to two and a half, Tom Kenny played consistant golf but was beaten on the 20th hole, Dennis Collins after a good round was also unlucky beaten on the 19th, Liam Brennan never go to his own high standard and was beaten on 15, with Gerry Brett suffering the same faith also beaten on the 15th.
Paddy Donovan won his match on the 16th, Ivan Brown won his match on the 18th, with Jim Kirby called in A/S on 18. Team managers Pat O’Keefee and Niall Brett praised their players for the dedication shown in practice and matches alike , they commiserated with players but reminded them that sport especially golf is often cruel and that the club is proud of their achievements.

Two dates to keep in mind are the 2nd and 3rd of OCT the Mount Carmel Classis will be held its €60 per team of 4, this worth while charity which looks after the elderly in the locality is always well supported and with first prize being a Weekend break in Cahir Lodge Hotel and a golf package in Cahir Deer park Golf Course its well worth the entrance fee, for reservations call Robert on 0876592977.
Callan Golf Club would like to offer sympathy to President Mossie Skehan on the death of his brother James (Seamus) Skehan.
Club Lotto no winner of the €1250 jackpot the numbers drawn were 8,20,36 €30 each to Mary Barry, John O’Brien, Sean O’Halloran. Next weeks jackpot is €1350 thank you for your support.
