Club News 13th March

Mr. Bill Martin RIP (Past Captain Callan Golf Club): It was with great sadness that we heard of the passing of a past Captain of our Club. Mr Bill Martin was Captain of our Club in 1981 having joined in 1975. He was a true gentleman and was a tireless worker in volunteering his time and expertise to help the club. Bill was a founding member of a fantastic association between the Emerald Golf Society from New York and Callan Golf Club which started almost forty years ago in 1978. This has been an annual pilgrimage of our Diaspora from the New York area to Ireland for almost forty years and is an incredible week of activities at Callan `Golf Club thanks in no small part to the efforts of Bill way back in the ‘70s. Bill competed proudly in interclub competitions for his club over the many years he was a member. He was one of nature’s genuine souls with a kind and friendly way with those who had the pleasure to meet, play golf, walk the fairways and know him. Our fortieth Emerald Classic in September this year will be sadly missing one of its stars. May his gentle soul rest in peace.
