Two Person Team Event

Kevin O Driscoll and Joe Madigan produced syntilating golf to dominate this Two Person Team event held over the weekend. Kevin and Joe finished with a 47 point haul which saw them home by a point from Johnnie Kennedy and Rollie Comer. There was a large entry in nice conditions which saw worthy winners with such a fine total.

Open Singles

The second installment of the open singles series attracted a field of over 50 golfers with Adrian Cunningham producing an excellent total of 43 points. Adrian has been in fine form lately and his total saw him win by 3 shots from Mickey Comerford (40 points) with Martin O\'Halloran scooping the gross prize. Seamus Fitzpatrick,one of a good number of visitors, from Mountain View also earned a berth in this years final in Autumn. The series continues every Wednesday with an early bird option available for visitors before noon.

Singles Matchplay

Following the Singles Matchplay qualifier last weekend the draw for the opening round was made. The draw in fullis as follows;

Duggan Cup

The Callan Duggan Cup team got off to a fantastic start with an excellent victory over Mount Juliet in the opening round of this years competition. Brian Cullen/ Paddy Hickey, Martin Maher/Pat Cunningham, Liam Brennan/Marty Parker all won in Callan while Liam Duggan/Mick Fitzpatrick and Jim Kirby/John Healy all performed excellently in Mount Juliet to complete the victory.

Ladies Inter club matches

Callan ladies got off to a flying start in the inter club matches. On Monday the 26th the Minor cup team took on Gowran on neutral ground in Kilkenny golf course. The Callan ladies struck top form from the 1st Tee. Ending with a win on the 17th,14th and 16th hole\'s to claim the overall match, the remaining two matches were called in 4 up and 1 down .

Team members were Marie Gorey, Olive Walsh, Annette Hogan, Theresa O\'Neill Manager Pauline O\'Brien .

On Saturday 31st the Intermediate cup team had their fist match against Baltinglass which was played on neutral ground in Gowran park . Again the Callan ladies showed there determination by beating a strong Baltinglass side winning on holes 14,15 and 16 to claim the match

Team members were: Lorraine Donovan, Teresa Freyne, Evelyn Bookle, Claire Henriques, Mary Barry (Manager) and Linda Adaire. Afterwards both teams were full of praise for Gowran and Baltinglass for very sporting and friendly match\'s and afternoon Congrats and well done to all team members, managers and caddies.

Ladies Weekly Competition

The 18 hole competitions re commenced on Tuesday 27th March. With temperatures rising to 17 degrees the ladies responded by posting equally high scores. The winning score of 41 pts was posted by Kathleen Phelan followed by Noelle Cody with 39 pts 3rd Marie O\'Riordan 36pts, 4th Ann Woodcock 33pts, 5th Breda Ryan 32pts c/b
6th Olive Walsh 32pts 66 Ladies Played

The Junior alliance was held in Kilkenny on Monday 26th with three Callan ladies featuring in the prizes Celine Egan, Margaret Comerford and Miriam Fennelly

Ladies Open event

Ladies Open Day on Tuesday the 10th of April there will be an open singles stableford competition.

Introduction to Golf Lessons

Lessons will start at Callan Golf Club in mid April.These are being run in conjunction with Kilkenny Recreation and Sports Partnership and are funded by the HSE.The club will contact participants about dates and times.
